Michelle Hoogveld is a Canadian contemporary artist whose vibrant style is inspired by colour theory, connection, and matters of the heart.
Contemporary artist Michelle Hoogveld brings her vibrant style to varied mediums worldwide - from canvas to murals, public installations to design, print editions, fashion, sculpture and more. In compositions of bold patterns and textile-like blockings of colour, she weaves together a colourful portrayal of who we are as people, the places we encounter and the one thing that connects us all - love.
Creating a visual language that draws upon human emotion and the resonance of colour, Hoogveld merges intuition with intention, thoughtfully intertwining gestural marks and washes with hard edge painting. Drawing inspiration from geometric abstraction, colour field painting, and abstract expressionism, Michelle employs colour theory alongside spontaneous combinations of colour, resulting in compositions that dance between movement and form. Emphasizing love and connection, her abstract works have impressive staying power, leaving an undeniable impression on the viewers and their hearts.
With impressive large-scale murals, including the 16,750 square foot mural “Dazzle my Heart” standing 16 stories in Montreal, Quebec and the 13,500 square foot mural “Technicolor” in Hoboken, New Jersey, Hoogveld’s colourful works have touched people across the world. Showcased in Canada, the United States, the Netherlands, France, Peru, Mexico, Germany, Portugal, England and Spain, Hoogveld aims to push the boundaries where colour and emotion coalesce, celebrating the richly saturated, ever- changing, expressions of the heart. Hoogveld’s work is a beacon of positivity, encouraging us all to discover our colour, passion, and the essence that makes us truly human.
